Product Description Doctor Dealer is the story of Larry Lavin, a bright, charismatic young man who rose from his working-class upbringing to win a scholarship to a prestigious boarding school, earn Ivy League college and dental degrees, and buy his family a house in one of Philadelphia's most exclusive suburbs. But behind the facade of his success was a dark secret -- at every step of the way he was building the foundation for a cocaine empire that would grow to generate over $60 million in annual sales. Award-winning journalist Mark Bowden tells the saga of Lavin's rise and fall with the gripping, novelistic narrative style that won him international acclaim as the author of the New York Times best-seller Black Hawk Down. "Immensely readable . . . eye-popping . . . a smoothly crafted, exciting, can't-put-it-down book." -- Louisville New Voice

Hard to put down June 7, 2010 This book proves once again that even the smartest criminals are the dumbest people on earth. The whole time you're saying stop and enjoy your free life!!!!! Excellent read from cover to cover.
My Favorite reading in 30 years!! May 28, 2010 I was a classmate and somewhat of a bystander to all of the action in this book. I can testify to the accuracy of the mood of the era. What a wild time. I could not put this book down! I purchased several copies and mailed them to others who new Larry first hand. I came away from this reading feeling a little more knowlegeable about the human mind and what motivates a certain type of person. Before I read the book I had read a complaint about the lack of photos. I have to agree about that. I also wish more time had been spent with the verdicts/outcome of the people involved. Where is Larry now? How does he look back on his experience? This would make a great movie!!!!(And I volunteer to be in it or act as a consultant:)
Among Bowden's best April 5, 2010 I am surprised I hadn't heard of this before, as it is as good as anything Bowden has done. It is interesting, fast paced, and a memorable story. If you liked Bowden's other work, this will hit the spot. I give it a 4.5*.
What I Learned In College February 1, 2010 This was a fascinating story....from dorm room dealer to cocaine kingpin.....they should make a movie about this guy.....Mark Bowden is a pretty good writer too
Great Book December 11, 2009 Loved this book, was exactly what I thought it would be. Burned through it in a few days!
