How to detect prostate cancer(part two)
Blood tests represent a way to detect prostate cancer, but unfortunately not a very certain way. It is best in following the response treatments have on cancer, than detecting it. Therefor I am going to present to you other alternatives to detecting prostate cancer.
More relevant are the imaging studies, which allow doctors to see the extent as well as the spread of cancer to other organs. There are scans of the pelvis or abdomen, which allow us to fully detect primary prostate cancer and distant metastases as well. For lung cancer, doctors use chest x-rays. Another relevant test used to detect prostate cancer is to inject contrast dye to the patient and through x-rays of the abdomen see if there is any obstruction to the bladder or kidneys.Another imaging test is the endoscopic test. A flexible tube which has a small camera is inserted into the bladder, and the camera allows us to detect the prostatic cancer or see if it has spread. If bone pain is accused by the patient, by using a substance inserted into the vain, doctors can determine if prostate cancer has spread to the bones. This substance highlights the affected areas.
All of the above can indicate if a men has prostate cancer. Afterwards by doing a biopsy(tissues are taken from the affected area) and analyzing the results doctors may confirm if a pacient is certainly suffering from Prostate cancer. That being the case, then some staging procedures are necessary as a result. First the location, size and spread of the tumor must be determined. A grade is also given to the prostate cancer, which can help in determing how fast growing is the cancer. These procedures can help in determing what kind of treatment to use, because at different stages of the prostate cancer is best to give different treatments.
There are also known stages of the prostate cancer. The first stage is when the cancer cannot be determined through a rectal examination and there are no indications that the cancer has spread. The second stage is when the tumor can actually be felt in a rectal examination, but to find out if cancer has spread a biopsy is necessary. The third stage is when cancer has taken over other tissues near the prostate. The fourth and last stage is when prostate cancer has spread to other organs as well as the lymph nodes.
